Cubo Connect: Meet Ken Murphy

Cubo Connect: Meet Ken Murphy

Tell us about yourself?

I’m Ken Murphy and I’m born and raised in Bangor, County Down – did you know it’s a City? I’ve been working in the Mobiles industry for 25 years from managing in Carphone Warehouse, to working for O2 direct, and then NIBC/Cubo for the past 18 years. Outside of work, I enjoy going out for meals and spending time with family and friends and I love going for walks on the beach with the dogs. I like to unwind with a glass of wine and watching sport. I’m a Liverpool supporter and a proud follower of Ireland rugby.

Something about yourself that most people don’t know?

I once played Rugby at Ravenhill.

Favourite holiday destination

I recently visited Sardinia and this was hard to beat due to the beautiful landscape, people and the food and drink. My dream holiday is to visit the Seychelles before they disappear.

Favourite Movie and TV show?

My favourite film is A Clockwork Orange and for TV show I’d have to go with an oldie – The X Files.

Favourite food & drink?

A T-Bone Steak with all the trimmings, chips and pepper sauce, and washed down with a nice Red wine.

Favourite social media platform?

LinkedIn. I don’t bother with any of the others.

Have you ever met anyone famous?

I met Brian Moore, the ex-English Rugby Hooker, when I worked at Waxy O’Connors Irish Bar in London in 1996. I’ve also met former F1 Driver Eddie Irvine on a number of occasions.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

Ability to see the future!

If you could meet any living person for dinner, who would you pick and why?

James Cordon – I think he’d be a bit of craic.

What would be your walkout song in front of a packed crowd?

Taste the Pain by Red Hot Chili Peppers.

How long have you been at Cubo and what is your role?

I’ve been working at Cubo for the past 18 years (with a year sabbatical in between). In my current role as Head of Mobile Sales, I’m responsible for managing sales targets, liaising with customers, and managing the relationship between Cubo and Vodafone.

Favourite thing about working at Cubo?

I’m always learning something new every day. It’s a great place to work and I enjoy seeing my colleagues everyday and I can’t forget about the daily quizzes.

What’s your favourite piece of work advice you’ve ever received?

Work smarter, not harder and have a better work/life balance.
