Cubo Connect: Meet Ian Buchanan

Cubo Connect: Meet Ian Buchanan

Ian Buchanan

Tell us about yourself?

I’m Ian Buchanan and I grew up on a farm in a small village called Bready (the cricketing capital of the North West) and went to school in Strabane followed by University in Jordanstown. I’ve always been good at Maths so was told the only option was Accounts so here we are. I’m now married and live in Lisburn and we are hoping to have a little one come August this year so big changes ahead as everyone in the office likes to tell me. We also have a Golden Retriever called Penny.

My favourite things to do outside of work are anything sport related, whether watching or participating and it doesn’t matter which sport. I played football to a decent standard of Irish League reserves playing for Institute F.C and then also played rugby until I ruptured my ACL which has put an early end to my competitive playing. So now I play a bit of golf at my leisure (Hoping to play a lot more this year when the weather picks up).

Favourite holiday destination

So far, Italy has been my favourite holiday which was last summer for a friends wedding. We were in Pisa, Florence & Tuscany and enjoyed every bit of the weather, the food, the people and not to mention the sights.

Favourite Movie and TV show?

I enjoy War films or TV series, so probably Band of Brothers.

Favourite food & drink?

Pizza (Probably why I enjoyed Italy so much).

Favourite social media platform?

Not a big one for social media but Instagram is quite good to quickly see what friends and family have been up to.

Have you ever met anyone famous?

Not sure how famous they are but David Healy, Paddy Barnes and Dan Walker.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

Teleportation. It’s a long drive down home to Bready to see family so would be good to click your fingers and just be there.

If you could meet any living person for dinner, who would you pick and why?

It would have to be the great Sir Alex Ferguson – being a Man Utd fan it’s an easy choice really. It would be very interesting to see what he makes of the team at the minute.

What would be your walkout song in front of a packed crowd?

Welcome To The Jungle – Guns N’ Roses.

How long have you been at Cubo and what is your role?

About a year and a half now as an Assistant Accountant and my main duties include sales invoicing, bank reconciliations and credit control.

Favourite thing about working at Cubo?

It has to be the people and seeing the new tech coming out and how it benefits our customers (and the daily quiz at 3 o’clock).

What’s your favourite piece of work advice you’ve ever received?

‘Work smarter and harder’. I think I’ve really taken that to heart such that if there is a better way to do things, I enjoy finding them but also not afraid to work hard too.
